the air is full of wings

the air is full of wings,
clouds of swallows
the cold may soars,
the broad river swings
as it did before,
i see you swimming in sunlight
white dress drifted wide
ophelia laughing
before the swallowing tide,
swimming beside me
in this perfect hide
of timeless emotion
my pale river bride,
lit up by the memory
of you by my side,
holding on forever
to the love in my eyes,
as we swam the broad river
thirty years before,
sunlit and shining
before time took you all,
swept you so silent away,
and left me here wondering
on this sullen may day
what became of you lovely
beyond the clouds and the wings,
and the swift swallows sailing
the sorrowful spring.
